Anker Astro 3E 10000mAh External Battery

Charger- 40W 5-port desktop charger

Product Description

Capacity, charge speed, or portability? With the Anker® Astro 3E, you get all three. Who would've thought that 10000mAh could be so compatible, light, and sleek?

Four times the juice

With 10000mAh of capacity, charge your iPhone 5 / 4 / 3GS / 3 four to five times (40 hours of talk time), your Galaxy S3 three times, or your iPad / iPad 2 once. That's more than 400% the capacity of most smart phones.

Get powered up...fast

Plug in one device for 3A of output or two for 3A total. Special circuits built for Apple and Android let you charge your phones simultaneously at full speed. What's more, four handy adapters allow you to mix and match your gadgets, so all you'll need is your Astro 3E when you're running across town.

Simple, reliable power

Designed to be functional and efficient – nothing else. At 0.59in thin, the 3E comes ready to serve as an unobtrusive, lightweight solution to your daily power needs. Four small LEDs alert you as to how much capacity you've got left.

For optimal use

- To ensure complete safety and best performance, we strongly recommend using your device’s original cable, a third-party certified cable (such as MFI) or our included cable.
- For simultaneous, max-speed charging of your Astro and other devices, check out Anker's new line of 18W / 3.6A car and home adapters.
- Compatible with all Apple and Android smartphones, tablets and other USB charged devices with a 5V charge input. The iPod nano and some GPS and Bluetooth devices are not supported.

  • Great battery pack
  • This is a great battery pack. The first time I used it was on a four day camping trip in the woods. It worked well for charging my phone repeatedly during the trip. It's a wee bit pricey - but you get what you pay for. It works great. Takes a little while to charge, but then holds its power for quite a while afterwards. I can charge my phone several times (maybe >7 if I plug it in when it's around 40-50% charged already). Charging my iPad 1 drains the battery, but I don't use it all that much for iPad charging.

Customer FAQ

Q1.  Can I use USB cables othan than those provided with my Anker external battery?
To ensure complete safety and best performance, we strongly recommend using your device’s original cable, a third-party certified cable (such as MFI) or our included cable.
Q2.  Does it work with the new iPhone 5s, 5c?
Yes. But the Apple connector is not included. Please use your device's original cable.
Q3.  Anker external batteries' efficiency.
ALL external batteries lose power due to voltage conversion and circuit resistance.

Approximately 20% of Astro 2nd Generation external battery’s total capacity is consumed, including power lost from circuit heat and voltage conversion within the external battery (approximately 6%) and the charging cable and your device (approximately 14%). This efficiency rate is 15% higher than the industry average of 35%.

Older Astro batteries have lose approximately 30%.

According to industrial standards, all external batteries are labeled based on their raw cells capacity not efficiency. Like others, we are following this standard.
Q4.  How long will the battery lasts while not in use?
Generally, most of our external batteries' static power consumption is lower than 100uA, which will take between 3.5 and 20 years to drain the battery completely.

However, the chemicals within the li-ion battery will gradually become less active over prolonged periods without use. Most will die in 2 years of inactivity.

To extend your battery's life:
1. Charge and recharge it at least once every 3-4 months.
2. Do not over-charge or over-discharge it. It is best to keep it charged between 5%-95%.
Q5.  Can Anker external batteries be used for international travel?
Yes. Be sure the USB adapter you bring with is compatible with the voltage of the country you will be traveling to. An adapter's voltage input is usually printed on the adapter.
Q6.  Can external batteries be taken on board airplanes?
Yes, all Anker external batteries can legally and safely be taken on board airplanes. Here are the relevant requirements:

Quoted from Federal transportation security rules (Effective January 1, 2008):
Lithium ion batteries (a.k.a.: rechargeable lithium, lithium polymer, LIPO, secondary lithium).
-Passengers may carry consumer-sized lithium ion batteries [no more than 8 grams of equivalent lithium content or 100 watt hours (wh) per battery]. This size covers AA, AAA, 9-volt, cell phone, PDA, camera, camcorder, Gameboy, and standard laptop computer batteries.
-Passengers can also bring two (2) larger lithium ion batteries (more than 8 grams, up to 25 grams of equivalent lithium content per battery) in their carry-on. This size covers larger extended-life laptop batteries. Most consumer lithium ion batteries are below this size.

Anker's largest external battery is currently the Anker Pro 20000mAh (74 wh) which is lower than the above 100 wh limit.
Q7.  What can I do if I lose the provided accessories?
Please check to see if you have extras or contact us via email at support@ianker.com for help.
Q8.  Anker external batteries' compatibility
Anker external batteries are compatible with Android and Apple smartphones and tablets except Asus devices ( Apple connectors are not included, please use your devices original cable).
Q9.  Can it be charged and charge other devices at the same time?
Yes, this battery can simultaneously charge and discharge. However, constant pass-through charging may affect the battery’s lifespan.
Q10.  Do I need to press the power button when charging other devices?
Yes.
Q11.  Do I need a certain type of charger to recharge this Anker external battery?
No, most USB AC chargers or a laptop or PC's USB port can recharge this battery. A minority of USB AC adapters are not compatible. If you find your charger is not working, please try a different charging option.
Q12.  How long does it take to fully charge this Anker external battery?
6-7 hours with a 1.5A output charger.
Q13.  Can I charge two devices at the same time?
Yes. But please note that when using 2 output ports simultaneously, the total output current will not exceed 3A.
Q14.  Can it charge Samsung or Asus tablets?
No.
Q15.  What is the difference between the Android and Apple output ports?
Both ports are able to charge devices with up to 5V / 3A input. As an added feature, the Android port is especially designed to accommodate the circuit design of Android phones while the Apple port is especially designed to accommodate the circuit design of Apple products. If using the two ports to charge, note that the output current to these two devices will not exceed 3A.
Q16.  How can I use the Android and Apple output ports?
The Android output port charges most devices up to 3A with a custom circuit designed to charge Android phones at full speed. This Android output port can charge iPhones at full-speed and iPads with with iOS 5 or 6 at 1.5A, or iPads with iOS 7 at 1A. Please note that this port will not support iOS versions below iOS 5.

The Apple output port charges most devices up to 3A with a custom circuit designed to charge Apple devices of any iOS version. Charge iPhones at full speed and iPads at 1A. For Android phones, the Apple output port can deliver a 0.5A charge.

Note: the Anker Astro 3E design can only support up to a 3A total output current. When Anker Astro 3E detects excessive output demands, it will automatically shut down to prevent internal damage. For example, If the Apple port is used to charge an iPad which requires 2.1A and the Android port is used to charge a device which requires 1.5A, Anker Astro 3E will recognize that the total output demand of 3.6A exceeds its limit and will shut down.

Q17.  What if my device is not an Android or Apple device?
The Android and Apple customizations are provided to maximize charging speeds, but you can still use either port to charge your device within the 5V/3A current limitation.
Q18.  What if the Astro 3E fails to charge?
a. Check that the adapter is connected securely, or replace it if the current one is not functioning normally.
b. Check that the USB cable is connected securely, or replace it if the current one is not functioning normally.
c. Please email us at support@ianker.com duiring your 18-month warranty period if the provided acessories or the external battery have problems.
Q19.  What if the Astro 3E fails to charge other devices?
A. Check that the connection between the Astro 3E and the electronic device is secure, or replace the cable if the current one is not functioning normally.
B. Check that the Astro 3E still holds a charge, and recharge it when the remaining power is low.
C. Check that the Astro 3E's voltage is compatible with the electronic device's.
D. Please email us at support@ianker.com duiring your 18-month warranty period if the provided acessories or the external battery have problems.
Q20.  How can I identify the voltage specification for my device?
Please refer to your device's instruction manual, product labeling, or adapter to find this information.

Anker, you can stop spending my money

With the Power User codes they sent out this week I finally ordered this battery in! Can't wait! And the 40W 5-port charger, too. I was going to get a few more things as well, but when my Amazon cart was over $125, I figured I needed to say, "STOP!" and take a look at what I really needed....

Using with a Garmin Nuvi 2595 GPS

I am mounting a GPS on my motorcycle and needed to know if this product would work with my Garmin Nuvi 2595 GPS. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I use a Mini 3000 and hook it to my Garmin ForeRunner 610, so yes, it's possible to do it. The only challenge I have is that when it is attached to the battery, I only see the battery charging screen, not any of the GPS information screens. The GPS is still working, still recording, and when I unplug it from the battery, it's just continuing on [or when i need to push the lap button, I need to unplug it, push the lap button, then plug it back in] collecting info.

Seeing how the GPS works while you have it plugged in at hoem will show you how it will behave with the battery. It's a firmware function. If it works fine, displays all so, guidance continues while plugged in at home, it'll work perfectly on the bike.

Easier, and quicker, will just be to see how it works with a USB wall charger in the house or in the garage. If you have no display issues while it's charging from the wall charger, you will not have any issues from a mounted battery.

There is a bit of degredation of charge when it sits on the shelf. Not a lot, and the battery certainly likes to be used once in a while, but it will still hold a viable charge months after charging. Just not a full charge. I realize this is a variable answer, but it's a varible question....

ASTRO 3E

Hello,

Not sure if the ANKER staff oversee these messages but I recently purchased the ASTRO 3E and the product itself was running really well, until I had to charge it. The cable that I received with the ASTRO 3E did NOT work. I tried 3 different AC adapters and plugged it into 2 different laptops and the blue lights would NOT blink (as shown in the youtube video they posted about the product). Luckily I have a friend from Korea who used a VEGA phone (Korean product) that uses ANDROID cables, and so I plug it into the ASTRO 3E and it worked.

So my concern is, I ordered this on AMAZON 6 days ago, received it 3 days ago and I am leaving for Europe in 7 days. Where do you guys purchase your cables? Who is your supplier? Do you have a Quality Assurance team? I spent the last day trying to figure out why this thing doesnt work and it was the cable. From what I know so far, the product works well, but the cable DOES NOT. Maybe its just my luck - but leaving in 7 days with a cable that doesn't work will not charge my phone while in transit. I know I can buy another cable at an electronic store but would like to get the cable that came with my purchase replaced ASAP.

Thank you.

Cables are easily and cheaply replaced in stores or online. Costs less than a dollar

If you contact Anker ASAP via email or phone, they can probably get you a replacement cable in a few days before your trip.

This is a rechargable battery. It is *not* a solar battery. You recharge it with a USB charging device or your computer and carry it with you when you need extra, mobile charging for your phone.

Power small motors

Hi,

I'd like to use the E3 to power a raspberry pi and small motors. The raspberry pi will draw a fairly constant current from one output but the motors will be intermittent on the other output. Is this possible as it seems that charging needs to be switched on, does charging stop when no current is drawn? Will drawing power on one output cause the voltage of the other to drop?

Thank you,

Mark
