Apple and Android ports: What's the difference?

USB-charged devices look for a USB pin signal before they accept a full-speed charge. Most devices use a standard USB pin signal; Apple devices and a few others, like the Galaxy tab, require specialized pin signals. Our Android and Apple ports are hard-wired to accommodate these two types of charging authentications. However, an Apple device can (usually) still charge from an Android port and vice versa, sometimes at a slower speed, but oddly, often also at full speed.

Customer Reviews

  • Good Multi-Purpose Phone battery chargerThis review is from: Anker? Multi-Purpose Universal USB Travel Wall Charger Cell Phone Battery Charger for iPhones, iPods; Samsung: Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S2 I910
  • I Purchased this to have a charger that can be used for multiple mobile batteries. My immediate need was to charge a Samsung Galaxy S3 battery and it worked well. The packaging notes that the Samsung batteries will not be fully charged and this is what I saw. it was only about 80% charged. It got the job done and I like the charger so far.

  • Great charger!
  • This battery charger works extremely well! The charging port on my Samsung nexus 515 broke but this has allowed me to keep using my phone. A fairly good size, not too big, the USB output allows me to charge my phone batteries and tablet all from one transformer/wall plug. And the micro USB input which I thought I would rarely use makes it convenient to charge in the car. It charges fairly quickly, maybe 2-3 hours for a 2100 ah

If the battery length does not exceed 2.6in (6.6cm) then it should work fine.

Yes it will charge your phone, just very slowly since the output is limited to 600ma.

You should be able to charge the s3 but the USB output is only 600 mA so charging will take a long time

Yes, it will charge it up OK but this charger cannot fully charge batteries for the Samsung S3 & S4, as the input voltage for the S3/S4 is 4.35V, higher than that of the charger (4.2V).

We do have strict and rigorous quality control in place but we do recognise that maintaining a 100% record is almost impossible with electronic devices. Having a single customer with 2 faulty products is very, very rare.

Please get in touch with your customer service team at and let them know the problem. They'll make the replacement (or refund) process as painless as possible.

Compatible with 7800 mah battery?

Is the universal wall charger compatable with the 7800 mah extended battery for the samsung galaxy s4

"the input voltage for the S3/S4 is 4.35V, higher than that of the charger (4.2V)."

Essentially yes and no, it won't completely charge it - so just go for a standard wall charger.

Tech X-Ray

Just use a USB charger to your phone instead?

Unfortunately the charger isn't totally compatible because the S4's batteries require a slightly higher voltage.

XPERIA V - Battery BA800
Hi, I want to know if this charger is compatible with the BA800 battery for the XPERIA V, thanks.

Judging by the listed devices your safest bet is that it isn't compatible, given that these seem to work with older Android devices and at the time those devices charged slower.

Stop opening my wallet!
Grrr. Anker I've slapped your hand before and asked you to stop featuring such unique, one-of-a-kind, awesome products that keep draining my wallet, but no, you insist on doing that. What makes it worse is that what you offer knocks the socks off anything out there and you sell it for ridiculously low prices! Stop it! No, really, don't stop it. Yep here's another Anker hot product I can't live without. Once I get it I'll tell you what I think but who could not love the idea???

Ha! Oh well, to the end of the line for me. Still, the build quality of the Anker products I've purchased has been excellent.

Lost ability to charge?
I have purchased this for quite a few months now. I absolutely love it because it does it's job of charging my extra Anker batteries. Problem is now when I attach a depleted battery to the charger, the blue light comes on after a few minutes. I thought that the light is just messed up and it'll still fully charge after about 4 hours (which is the normal charge time for my batteries). But I was wrong. I put the supposedly charged battery into my phone and it's still depleted. What's going on? Does this charger lose the ability to charge batteries after a certain time? I've tried other batteries and it's still the same so it's not a faulty battery problem. Any ideas how I can charge my batteries with this charger again?

Send an email to and they will be able to help you. If it has stopped working, they can help you get a replacement. Either way, sending them an email will help you.

This may be due to a defective charger. So we can help you further, please send the following info to Amazon order ID number, the serial number S/N XXXXXX located on the back of the charger, as well as your current shipping address. We're very sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

I had the same problem with my charger. It was a wire that came off one of the prongs. I let the company know and they replaced it with no problems.

Galaxy Note 3
Since a specific charger is not available for the Galaxy Note 3 batteries, will they fit in this universal charger? Any idea of the recharge time with this charger?

"Battery length should not exceed 6.6cm, such as that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2." assuming that l woudl say no
Reply Report as spam Oct 19, 2013 at 1:58 PM
Yeah, if the length exceeds 2.6in (6.6cm), this charger won't be able to charge it. Can you check your battery's length?

I'm trying to charge the battery to my Galaxy Nexus phone. I inserted the battery into the Anker, plugged it into the wall. Two hours later the light switched from red to blue but when I put the battery back into my phone it was still reading at just 4% charged. Do you have any ideas? Thanks Karen Walker

Would you please reconnect the charger's two floating pins to battery's positive (+) and negative (–) connection and recharge the battery longer to see how it works? Let us know what happens.
