Apple and Android ports: What's the difference?

USB-charged devices look for a USB pin signal before they accept a full-speed charge. Most devices use a standard USB pin signal; Apple devices and a few others, like the Galaxy tab, require specialized pin signals. Our Android and Apple ports are hard-wired to accommodate these two types of charging authentications. However, an Apple device can (usually) still charge from an Android port and vice versa, sometimes at a slower speed, but oddly, often also at full speed.

  • Works as advertised.Verified PurchaseThis review is from: Anker® Multi-Purpose Universal USB Travel Wall Charger Cell Phone Battery Charger for iPhones, iPods; Samsung: Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S2 I9100,
  • Working so far with a Sony RX100M3 battery off of a USB charger, which is what I was hoping for. The Sony external charger that works off of USB is quite a bit pricier (though smaller and sleeker). I haven't tried it with a different battery yet, but it is nice to have the optional versatility. Now I can charge all my devices from a single charger (Anker 5 port 40W). Two tablets, two phablets, and a camera!

  • I received the order in a couple of days, followed the instructions for programming and in two minutes I had gotten for less than $10 the exact same product that the dealer wanted almost $100 and even the auto parts stores wanted $50. I am very satisfied all around. I would definitely recommend buying this product.

Q1.  How to Charge using the Battery Dock?
1. Rotate and slide the cassette vertically or horizontally to allow the dock to accommodate the chosen battery size.
2. Slide and connect the charger's two floating pins to the battery's positive (+) and negative (-) contacts respectively. The battery can be aligned in either direction as the charger will automatically detect polarity and charge accordingly.

Q2.  How to Charge using the USB Port?
1. Plug the USB power wire (not included) to the Universal Charger’s output port, and insert the remaining end to the input port of your device.
2. When the power wire is properly connected, the LED indicator will turn red to indicate an active charging state.
Q3.  How to check if my battery is compatible with this charger?
1. Please make sure that the length of the battery does not exceed 66mm.
2. Please make sure that the contacts are located at the top or bottom.
Q4.  Is it compatible with batteries from the S4, S5, Note 2 or Note 3?

I purchased a Anker Universal Cell Phone Battery Charger about six weeks ago, and it was working great.  Now when I put the battery in the light comes on, but when I plug it into an outlet the light doesn't come on at all.  I had it plugged in for two hours today to check if it was still charging and my battery was still dead ( I did try multiple outlets).  Does this mean my charger is broken, and if it is do they typically have such a short life expectancy? thank you!!Bonnie Prenatt

It looks like the charger may be defective, we don't expect it to last such a short amount of time hence the 18 month warranty!

Please give our customer service guys a shout at support@ianker.com and let them know, they'll help you out.

Frustrated and Annoyed!!!
Bought the Anker wall charger for my cell phone battery because the port on my phone broke and would no longer connect and it worked fine for a while. But for some reason now I cant seem to get it to connect to the battery. I put it on the charger correctly and nothing happens. I tried to plug it in thinking maybe the battery was too dead to read but it comes up blue when I do that telling me my battery is fully charged when I know it's not. I don't know what to do now cause if I cant get my battery charged its going to ruin the battery. I'm so ready to throw everything at a wall. What do I do now?

Sorry that you're having issues!

If you've tried another outlet and that isn't working then it could also be a problem with your battery. Do you possibly have another battery you might try in the charger?

Please get in touch with our customer service guys at support@ianker.com for further help!

If the battery length does not exceed 2.6in (6.6cm) then it should work fine.

Yes it will charge your phone, just very slowly since the output is limited to 600ma.

You should be able to charge the s3 but the USB output is only 600 mA so charging will take a long time

Yes, it will charge it up OK but this charger cannot fully charge batteries for the Samsung S3 & S4, as the input voltage for the S3/S4 is 4.35V, higher than that of the charger (4.2V).

We do have strict and rigorous quality control in place but we do recognise that maintaining a 100% record is almost impossible with electronic devices. Having a single customer with 2 faulty products is very, very rare.

Please get in touch with your customer service team at support@ianker.com and let them know the problem. They'll make the replacement (or refund) process as painless as possible.

"the input voltage for the S3/S4 is 4.35V, higher than that of the charger (4.2V)."

Essentially yes and no, it won't completely charge it - so just go for a standard wall charger.

Just use a USB charger to your phone instead?

Unfortunately the charger isn't totally compatible because the S4's batteries require a slightly higher voltage.

Hi, I want to know if this charger is compatible with the BA800 battery for the XPERIA V, thanks.

Judging by the listed devices your safest bet is that it isn't compatible, given that these seem to work with older Android devices and at the time those devices charged slower.

Stop opening my wallet!
Grrr. Anker I've slapped your hand before and asked you to stop featuring such unique, one-of-a-kind, awesome products that keep draining my wallet, but no, you insist on doing that. What makes it worse is that what you offer knocks the socks off anything out there and you sell it for ridiculously low prices! Stop it! No, really, don't stop it. Yep here's another Anker hot product I can't live without. Once I get it I'll tell you what I think but who could not love the idea???

Lost ability to charge?
I have purchased this for quite a few months now. I absolutely love it because it does it's job of charging my extra Anker batteries. Problem is now when I attach a depleted battery to the charger, the blue light comes on after a few minutes. I thought that the light is just messed up and it'll still fully charge after about 4 hours (which is the normal charge time for my batteries). But I was wrong. I put the supposedly charged battery into my phone and it's still depleted. What's going on? Does this charger lose the ability to charge batteries after a certain time? I've tried other batteries and it's still the same so it's not a faulty battery problem. Any ideas how I can charge my batteries with this charger again?

I had the same problem with my charger. It was a wire that came off one of the prongs. I let the company know and they replaced it with no problems.

Yeah, if the length exceeds 2.6in (6.6cm), this charger won't be able to charge it. Can you check your battery's length?
