Anker 2nd Gen. Astro 6000mAh External Battery Charger with PowerIQ™ Technology

Product Description

PowerIQ™: Compatibility maximized: Meeting your device’s unique charging needs.

Compatibility maximized.

Not all charging ports are created equal. Standard ports only communicate effectively with particular devices, like Apple OR Android, often limiting their recharge rate. But with PowerIQ™ technology, each port intelligently identifies your device to speak its unique charging language. So plug in any brand or model and enjoy compatibility that doesn’t limit your charging speed.

Power through your day.

We packed 6000mAh of power into a candy-bar shaped pack ideal for grab-and-go use. What's more, we realized an energy efficiency rate 10% above previous generation Astros and many current standard alternatives. This energizing combination charges the iPhone 3 times and large-capacity phones like the Galaxy S4 almost twice.

Double take.

Chic and minimalistic, the new Astro may feel reserved at first. But, a friendly “shake” reveals its warm inner light to display the power level or begin your charge. Generous, cool, and delightfully intuitive, the new Astro is perfect for your next adventure, or just the daily grind.

For optimal use.

• Please use your device’s original cable or a third-party certified one (such as MFi).
• Compatible with all Apple and Android smartphones, tablets (including the Nexus 7) and other USB-charged devices. The iPod nano, iPod Classic, HP TouchPad, LG G2, Asus tablets and some GPS and Bluetooth devices are not supported.

  • Great product, feels well constructed, and smaller than I thought. Works with my Nexus 4 and Kindle. I've been using it almost every day and it's become a essential piece of equipment in my pocket and backpack. The only annoying thing about it is that the charging light comes on even at the slightest movement/shaking. Other than that, great product. Highly recommend it!

Customer FAQ

Q1.  Can I use USB cables other than those provided with my Anker external battery?
To ensure complete safety and best performance, we strongly recommend using your device’s original cable, a third-party certified cable (such as MFI) or our included cable.
Q2.  Does it work with the new iPhone 5s, 5c?
Yes. But the Apple connector is not included. Please use your device's original cable.
Q3.  Anker external batteries' efficiency.
ALL external batteries lose power due to voltage conversion and circuit resistance.

Approximately 20% of Astro 2nd Generation external battery’s total capacity is consumed, including power lost from circuit heat and voltage conversion within the external battery (approximately 6%) and the charging cable and your device (approximately 14%). This efficiency rate is 15% higher than the industry average of 35%.

Older Astro batteries have lose approximately 30%.

According to industrial standards, all external batteries are labeled based on their raw cells capacity not efficiency. Like others, we are following this standard.
Q4.  How long will the battery lasts while not in use?
Generally, most of our external batteries' static power consumption is lower than 100uA, which will take between 3.5 and 20 years to drain the battery completely.

However, the chemicals within the li-ion battery will gradually become less active over prolonged periods without use. Most will die in 2 years of inactivity.

To extend your battery's life:
1. Charge and recharge it at least once every 3-4 months.
2. Do not over-charge or over-discharge it. It is best to keep it charged between 5%-95%.
Q5.  Can Anker external batteries be used for international travel?
Yes. Be sure the USB adapter you bring with is compatible with the voltage of the country you will be traveling to. An adapter's voltage input is usually printed on the adapter.
Q6.  Can external batteries be taken on board airplanes?
Yes, all Anker external batteries can legally and safely be taken on board airplanes. Here are the relevant requirements:

Quoted from Federal transportation security rules (Effective January 1, 2008):
Lithium ion batteries (a.k.a.: rechargeable lithium, lithium polymer, LIPO, secondary lithium).
-Passengers may carry consumer-sized lithium ion batteries [no more than 8 grams of equivalent lithium content or 100 watt hours (wh) per battery]. This size covers AA, AAA, 9-volt, cell phone, PDA, camera, camcorder, Gameboy, and standard laptop computer batteries.
-Passengers can also bring two (2) larger lithium ion batteries (more than 8 grams, up to 25 grams of equivalent lithium content per battery) in their carry-on. This size covers larger extended-life laptop batteries. Most consumer lithium ion batteries are below this size.

Anker's largest external battery is currently the Anker Pro 20000mAh (74 wh) which is lower than the above 100 wh limit.
Q7.  What can I do if I lose the provided accessories?

Yellow and Blue Colors in Canada
I would like to buy this beautiful battery charger and I noticed that it comes in different colors like yellow and blue, but unfortunately none of them is available for Canada. So, do you have any information about the availability date of those colors to Amazon Canada?
Replies(2) Collapse Report as spam Sep 7, 2014 at 4:41 PM

The new blue and white versions are being sold by Amazon directly rather than through Anker Direct so we have no control over which Amazon platforms will be selling them.

The other colours are unfortunately only available on Amazon US.

Hi,I am wondering if it is ok to charge astro battery directly with regular smartphone charger like galaxy s2 without using the provided usb cable? (the same way i charge my smarthpone)

I bought in dubai via onilne shopping website. It says American brand but as mentioned in item "MADE IN CHINA". It has proven worth its really made in China. Now nobody is there to solve my problem. When i contact to customer service of anker they say, since i have bought if from third party they cant do anything. Again when i contact to those online seller, they are also helpless... i wasted my money in this product. Better i would have bought other .. finlly regretting with this product. Sorry to hear that you had so many problems with your Astro.

We do try to control all 3rd party sales of our devices in order to make sure that customer care is provided but in today's market place it's very difficult to stop all unauthorised resellers. We would suggest that you go back to the reseller and advise that if they purchased the Astro from AnkerDirect then they will still be covered by our 18 month warranty. Apologies that we can't help you further on this occasion.

Sounds like a bad cable or the seller was there to scam you.Strange that you are not within a 30 day money back guarantee policy.Usually buyers are super protected in the policies...

I just finished charging the 2nd Gen Atro 6000 for the first time. I noticed that the LED's , although they flash 360 degrees, they only light up to 70% charged on a full charge. I did recharge the battery before it was 100% discharged. Is this normal or should the ring be completely lit when fully charged? Thanks
Replies(2) Collapse Report as spam Aug 4, 2014 at 5:18 AM

After a full charge all the LEDs should be lit.

If you're struggling to fully charge it then please use a different cable and charger and see if that makes a difference. If you're still having trouble then give our customer service guys a shout at and let them know. They'll be more than happy to help.

charge my anker 2nd generation
hi i would like to know that if i can charge my Anker 2nd Gen. Astro 6000mAh External Battery Charger with iphone 5 charger or it is only recommended to charge from computer or laptop? i have seen that my iphone 5 charger output power is 5V with 1 A. please suggest on this issue coz everytime i dont want to open my laptop or computer to charge my anker 2nd generation 6000mah device.
Replies(2) Collapse Report as spam Jul 30, 2014 at 8:49 AM

Yes, you'll be absolutely fine using your iPhone charger!

The fastest charger would be 5V/1.2A but a charger of any other power level won't cause any damage or issues.

Mixed Reaction
Being a heavy phone user, I use this product to charge my Nexus 5 almost everyday. It charges the phone at the same rate as the OEM wall adapter (>1 Amp). The 10 LED battery level indicator has some cool and useful animation while charging the phone and while charging the unit.Shake feature does turn on the USB circuitry but the unit shuts down if there is no load detected. There is no On-Off switch and the unit turns on its DC-DC conversion when it detects "significant" load (min 50mA as per the manual) at its output. This means that my bluetooth headsets (Plantronics Backbeat Go 2 and Logitech H800) do not charge on this unit (too little current drawn?). I wish there was a physical on-off button (even a soft switch) to get around this issue. All in all, a good product. Just needs to iron out some kinks in the next version.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

Yes, that is a problem unfortunately. The power draw on a lot of headphones is just far too low for the battery to register it.

In regards to buttons, it's surprising how controversial the subject is. Some people hate the button as they get pressed in bags, some people hate shaking as it activates when they walk! We're doing everything we can to devise an activation system that satisfies everyone!
